BOURTON SHAPES UPDATE
First of all I would like to thank all those that have supported my label over the years and particularly those that have stuck by me post BASE.
Come 2012, I have a new business model that has me excited.
For one, the communication advantages with the internet has allowed me to talk to customers as I have done in my shops over the last 30 years and with the inclusion of the PDF files of my designs, deliver an even more mathematically correct custom service where clients are actually understanding more about what is actually under their feet than they would having the board under arm on the floor. Some are even taking control of the future tweaking of their designs.
In a novel twist, my business address has moved, and in fact will always be moving. I am now located at my “Beach Office”, a large Renault van and will now be communicating and designing from ocean side where it all began for me.
40 years later, thanks to modern technology, I can live the dream and surf while I am at work. All my new model samples are racked up in my van for anybody to feel up at any time. Retailers these days will never display a labels full range of models, but I will!
I have a shaping bay at DH’s factory and this is also where my shapes are being glassed. You will be hard pressed finding me there though, as I have done my years in factories and now intend to enjoy the next ten years of doing business with my customers.

Is how you can find me from now on unless of course if in fact I am not driving through your town at the time? And at some time I may well be since the grey nomad in me is beginning to take hold. I will be posting my movements online and face book so keep an eye out. I am so looking forward to re igniting the old surfari days.
LATEST MODELS
To keep up with what I am doing you will need to keep an eye on my site.
I will not be selling to too many shops in the future but only to the ones that respect my M.O and have the time to deal with proper custom order process.
The new fused pellet polystyrene has been quite successful of late and will be a strong part of my range in the future. I have learnt more how to glass these boards in the last few months and now I think I have it wired. If there are some customers out there that would like to get back to me on their performance so far I would be grateful.
The advent of the five finners has been strong this year where retailers would like a bet each way on how to sell these boards that are on the cusp. I have three small mini keels meant for the centre plug in all my specific quad designs and I also have some multipurpose quad or thruster designs such as the Ledge Tamer and the Fashion Victim that have the five fin facility.
Ive also been using the diagonal glassing technique for over 14 years now and the jury has been in for the last 12. The structure is stronger- and where I can I will persuade every customer to include this system in their order as it could mean the difference between trying to trade in two halves or one whole board.
Also as a standard I have been at the forefront of using carbon reinforcements around the critical parts of the tail in order to maintain the integrity of the bottom edges.
WEB SITE
www.bourtonshapes.com has been kept simple. First and foremost it is meant to be informative and secondly easy to navigate. There is no E Commerce point and click facility with a board automatically arriving in the mail, as I like to work with you. Together we can make decisions about the design of the board that will be best for you.
The home page layout has a compilation of recent models and stories of interest. The right hand side is where you can scroll down to view all my stock models. I have many specific boards for many specific purposes and they are explained quite thoroughly in the text for each model. Each model has customer feedback included as to me this is a very important part of the development of my designs.
Additionally to all that, there are news posts and all the technical info you need. By all means contact me by email, request me as a facebook friend and follow “murraybourton” on instagram .
Shit I love what I do, and the next few years I am gonna love it even more. I reckon the day I stop surfing will be the day I stop shaping! I gotta say though, (touch wood) it ain’t gonna be some time soon.
